Family day weekend is upon us, and what better way to spend it than with your family amidst the beautiful Canadian rockies?

Bring your family out to Banff - there's plenty to do this weekend! Your flannel family has you covered - here are 6 things to do this Family Day weekend in Banff: 

1. Bring the Family out to Norquay for Family Day Camp 

During this 3-day program (February 17 - 19), kids will gain confidence, receive expert instruction, form new friendships, and have a whole lot of fun along the way. Your kids can try skiing, snowboarding, or mix it up for a day and try both! Reserve your child’s place here.

Bonus: Norquay is also hosting the Vans Hi-Standard Snowboarding Contest on Saturday, February 17th at 10:00am - 4:00pm. This competition is open to riders aged 15 and up, and is FREE to enter, including a lift ticket and lunch!

2. Family Day Celebration at the Fenlands Banff Recreation Centre

Bring the family down for fun-filled FREE activities! From public skating, tobogganing & snow painting, curling, and even swimming - there's something for everyone!

3. Take the Family Hiking at Johnston Canyon

Have you visited Johnston Canyon yet? If you haven't, it's definitely a must! Family day weekend is a great time to bring the family out to explore. Don't miss the opportunity to share quality time outdoors with the ones you love!

4. Soak in the Banff Upper Hot Springs 

After exploring the natural beauty that Johnston Canyon has to offer, why not take the family to the Banff Upper Hot Springs for a soak? It's a breathtaking source of relaxation and rejuvenation for all ages. 

The elevation of Banff Upper Hot Springs, at 1,585 meters (5,200 feet), make it the highest in Canada. 

5. Catch a Presentation Hosted by the Banff Centre for the Arts and Creativity

Into the arts? Bring the family to one of the Banff Centre for the Arts and Creativity Events this weekend! 

Friday, February 16th at 7:30pm, there will be an open concert: Concert in the 21st Century at the Rolston Recital Hall.

Experience the work of participants of the Concert in the 21st Century program curated by Pedja Muzijevic, and join them in exploring new ways to present classical and contemporary music. 

Admission is FREE for this event!

Saturday, February 20th at 7:00pm, you can sit back at the Lux Cinema and watch A Night at the Festival: The Last Honey Hunter and Samuel in the Clouds.

6. Bring Your Family to Rocky Mountain Flannel Company

Finally, bring the whole family down to Rocky Mountain Flannel, located on 225 Bear Street! We're always excited to meet new people, from all over the world! 

Scottish Canadians embrace Robert Burns as a poet and mark his birthday with Festivities. Today, a bagpiper was even present at Sunshine Village, playing in tribute to the Scottish poet!

To celebrate Robbie's legacy, we've uncovered 10 facts you didn't know about Robbie Burns:

1. He was the first person to appear on a Coca Cola bottle

In 2009, Burns was printed on one million commemorative bottles of Coca Cola! His appearance was the first face that had ever been printed on a Coca Cola bottle!

2. He has quite a few nicknames

Robbie Burns has also been called "Rabbie" Burns, the Bard of Ayrshire, Ploughman Poet, among others.

3. His works have inspired multiple movements 

The work of Robert Burns has regarded him as the pioneer of the Romantic movement, and has been said to be a great source of inspiration to founders of liberalism and socialism.

4. He's been recognized as "The Greatest Scot"

In 2009, the Scottish public voted Burns as the Greatest Scot to have lived!

5. He formed the Tarbolton Bachelors' Club with his brother

The young men formed a small social club November 11th, 1780. It is now a museum where people can visit to this day. 

6. Burns early works made him an "overnight success"

In 1786 the poems of Robert Burns were first published in the Kilmarnock volume, which contained much of his best writing. It was an immediate success that had him known across the country.

7. Robert Burns has more than 50 statues and memorials around the world

Burns is even the most statued non-religious figure after Queen Victoria and Christopher Columbus!
